Todo List

Todo items in no particular order.

Tasks to do at the Space

Wooden Pallets

Check with Tim to see if they are needed and unless we have a use for them at the space (scrap wood maybe?) Chris S to dispose of.

Lighting

Wire up the spot lights above the "clean" desk with flex and 3-pin plugs.

Clean sink thoroughly

We have “Vim” available at the space as well as rubber gloves, sponges etc.

Clean and service assemble electronics workbenches

Some screws missing and need a good scrub as well as wiring up to mains. Bare in mind these are technically not outs so we shouldn't spend any money on them.

Wire up more power points

Currently just on back wall and on pillars we could do with having some more power points on the side wall and ability to trail cables safely into the middle for any tooling that might be sited there. Initially some power strips would help massively.

Space needs to be seperated off

So members of the public during RideRide workshops etc dont wander in we need a physical barrier up. Suggestions include a simple piece of rope, shower curtain or curtains with our logo on.

Signage

Get a decent quality sign in the front window so people know we are there. As RideRide currently just have an A4 sign also would be good to help them create something bigger. We have something on paper but it keeps coming off because of the damp.

Disabled access

To be discussed with RideRide, ideas from any disabled members we have would be very helpful to get this right.

Cleaning and servicing tooling

We have a few powertools and handtools that need cleaning up and testing. A bit of contact cleaner, grease, lubricating oil etc will be needed and some blades may need sharpening. We also need spare blades for the jigsaw.

Storage boxes sourced

We require a stackable (for space saving) storage solution for all members. A tough reasonable sized plastic box has been suggested and due to space considerations it should be a maximum of approx 50L capacity. We have sticky labels to determine who’s is whos. Chris has suggested this box which is available locally at The Range. Blue can be used for tools and equipment, pink for cleaning and administration supplies and clear for personal storage.

Administration Tasks

First Aiders

We need confirmation (from HSE ideally) of our requirements for first aiders or appointed persons during workshops and normal operating hours.

Other Wiki's

We need our details (so make it) added to these wiki's as well as the details for SoutHACKton updated there.

Leaflet

To raise public awareness, boost membership we need to create a basic (black and white) leaflet for the space to be printed and distributed in specific places. (Both the universities, library, B&Q, maplins etc.

Business cards

We need a So Make It business card that people can hand out at events etc. Anybody can come up with a basic design!

Disclaimer

We need to draft a legal document for members to sign that acknowledges that some dangerous things happen inside the makerspace, and that they're responsible for their own actions. Thread discussing this here (on our mailing list). Current implementation is here (on GitHub). Needs confirmation it is legally binding and improvement, perhaps integrating into our membership forms.

Photostream

It'd be great to have a central repository for photos, whether that be flickr or whatever, this would be especially helpful when trying to come up with images for the website.

Grants

If anyone has any connections that would be useful with respect to getting grants or funding, now would be a good time to start laying the groundwork.

Space

We have a space currently at RideRide cycle workshop however this is only until next October. Everybody should keep an eye out for possible future sites for the space in case we need to move out of the RideRide workshop.

ASSIGNED TO: Everyone - report progress on the SoutHACKton mailing list.

Equipment

It'd be great to gather a list of the offered equipment and figure out what we need to really get the makerspace going. Ultimately this would be great on the wiki, but there's no reason someone can't start curating the list manually.

ASSIGNED TO: James Bruton - I will maintain the list: Equipment-Donations

Rules of the Space

We need a set of rules for governing the space.

Current rules are on the Makerspace Rules page.

Preliminary Rules for discussion

Completed tasks

Once a task is complete, move it here.

Wiki

Completion notes: If we need more namespaces or any other changes please contact me.

Form a constitution

View the constitution here.

Submit Charity Registration

ASSIGNED TO: Trustees

Completion notes: waiting on the Charity Commission to get back to us.

Trustees contact details on website

We should have contact details for the trustees on the So Make It website. This should be both the committee mailing list being used, and individual contact details (or some way to contact individuals). Need to check with each trustee if they are happy to have phone and email public.

ASSIGNED TO: Benjie

Completion notes: email addresses are listed; and the trustees can be contacted via trustees@somakeit.org.uk. Phone numbers might be added later.

It'd be great to get a logo, like SoutHACKton has. I think it should be somewhat different though, and show the mixture of activities that we want to go on inside the Maker space.Note: a discussion thread has been created here

ASSIGNED TO: Benjie

Completion notes: the current logo is not necessarily permanent - if someone comes up with something better then we'll be happy to use that instead :)
