Prospective new member tour
How to give 'The Grand Tour'
PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The below list aims to highlight all items which need to be covered when giving prospective new members a tour of So Make It on their first visit; a lot of these points may state the obvious but should hopefully cover absolutely everything.
The objective is to go over all these points without giving too much detail - it's very easy to get bogged down on one step but there's a lot to cover! We want to give people all the information they need but without overloading them with detail, so keep it brief and let them guide you as to which aspects they would like to know more about.
1. Introductions
Always start by introducing yourself and any other members in the vicinity. Tell them how long you have been a member and give a brief overview of the type of activities/projects you enjoy working on.
2. About them
Next, ask them about themselves. What sort of interests do they hope to pursue at So Make It? How did they hear about us? Ask what they know about us already?
3. Tour of the space
3A. Social area
Central tables (mention crafts and space to work on laptops), seating area, kitchen and vending machine
3B. Storage
Members’ storage / small project shelves
3C. Clean space
Printers, electrical & soldering benches, laser cutter
3D. Workshop
Metalwork equipment, woodwork equipment, CNC router
4. Events and community
4A. Monthly member’s meeting
7.30pm - First Tuesday of every month
Run by the Trustees, this is a chance for members to be an active part of SMI's direction and keep up to date with progress on long-term projects
4B. Hack The Space
12pm - Alternating last Saturday or Sunday of every month
Designated day each month for members to maintain/improve the space
