The air filter was constructed using the schematic shown in the attached image and is adapted from this commercially available unit: Clean air kits - Luggables

The following parts list was used to construct a 12v computer fan driven dual HEPA filter device to drive filtered air at head height in the clean room and turn over the air approx. 3 times per hour to reduce the risk of infection of viruses such as Covid-19 by reducing the levels of airborne viral particles in indoor settings (Wikipedia for details)

  • 1 x Filtrete 1900 14” x 20” from DigiKey
  • 1 x Filtrete 1900 20” x 25”
  • 12 x arctic p12 fans
  • 2 x 5:1 fan hubs
  • 1 x 5.5mm DC barrel to 4-pin adaptor
  • 50 x M3 machine screws and nuts
  • 1 x 12v DC power supply
  • 6mm plywood and varnish for the structure, to be laser cut
  • 12 x fan grills to be 3D printed at the space
  • Glue / glue gun
  • Duct tape
  • Wire to extend power supply
  • 1 x rubber grommet
  • Eyelets for hanging

The fan unit has a SMIBHID device that drives a MOSFET from GPIO based on space state to enable the fans when the space is open to save filter life. A switch allows selection of on/of or auto by connecting the appropriate gnd/nothing/smibhid transistor output.

I asked ChatGPT for a circuit diagram as I was feeling lazy, but it gave me a 1960s inspired hallucination and a hard to read ascii diagram, so that's all you're getting for now.
